Opened in 1912, during the Russian Emprite – the biggest in the Baltics city-owned Zoo is located in Mežaparks district, on the western bank of lake Ķīšezers. It is housing around 4,000 animals, birds and insects of nearly 500 species on the total area size of around 16 ha.
Riga Zoo is visited by around 300,000 visitors annually and holds various event throughout the year.
