St. James Cathedral

St. James’s Cathedral, or the Cathedral Basilica of St. James, is the Roman Catholic cathedral located right in the heart of Riga Old Town, next to the Latvian parliament. First mentioned in ancient documents of 13 century (1220-ies), and while being a Catholic, was also the first church in Latvia to hold a Lutheran service.

Another interesting fact that that St. James was one of the first three churches built in Riga, but unlike the Riga Cathedral and St. Peter’s its services were held in Latvian until the Reformation unlike the first two which held mass in German.
