Chomsky

Named in honor of the well known American activist, philosopher and linguist Noam Chomsky, “Chomsky” bar is a new addition to other hipster places in Riga. It is located on the corner of Lāčplēša and Avotu Streets, with and entrance through the front yard.

Great and interesting interior (however we do love its exterior too) with everything inside being very bohemian and hip. A lot of paintings on the ceilings are all original and dating back to the 1920, when apparently this place was occupied by a carpenter and Jewish jewellery store.

The bar is very cosy and quite spacious being able to fit plenty of people in its four rooms . The friendly bar staff will always have a quick chat with your and help you choosing the right drink.

Speaking of their drinks – they have a pretty good selection of local brews, like “Rigas”, “Bralu” and “Brengulu” which you can’t find that easily in the main-stream bars. Prices for drinks are very much affordable too with beers costing around 1.80-2.50 EUR, making this quite a popular spot amongst students.

In summer they also open up a terrace in the front yard, that gets filled up by hipsters and young people of various types and interests, so spending evening in “Chomksy” at that time gets a lot more exciting! They tend to host quite often various musical and poetry events, so make sure you check their website for the latest stuff happening there.

Be aware that guys operate on “Cash Only” principe, so make sure you always have some of those on the hands.
