Riga Central Market

Riga Central Market highlights the city panorama will four cylindrical buildings right by the Riga Bus Station, Railway Bridge, and Daugava river.

This central market is largest in the Baltic region, as well as one of the largest markets of its kind in Europe. It is approximately 72,000 meters squared in size, with more than 3,000 trade stands and is visited by almost 100,000 visitors per day. In summer time these numbers can even double.

The reason why the market has this interesting exterior look is because these semi-cylindrical buildings are converted WWI German Zeppelin hangars. It took 7 years to build this marvelous construction when in Autumn 1930 it opened its gates to the guests.

The market consists of 5 hangars, or ‘pavilions’ as they call it in Latvia. Each of those focuses on a different type of a product: meat, fish, vegetables, dairy products and etc. So if you are after only fresh products from local & eco-friendly farmers of Latvia, this should definitely be your ultimate choice.

Riga Central Market is definitely a place to head down to for a proper shopping mixed with a cultural experience of the Baltic region and Eastern Europe.
