Alus Arsenals (Beer Arsenal)

“Alus Arsenals” or The Beer Arsenal in English, is an interesting classic beer cellar with Medieval spirit located just off of Riga Castle Square. Its unique interior of low vaulted ceilings together with painted tall foliage, stained glass lamps and big wooden tables, benches and chairs takes you back to the Medieval times when Dominican priests and knights of Templar who visited Riga once were guests of places as this.

The Beer Arsenal specialises in Latvian cousine, and here you can be sure to get big servings of classic meals like metre-long sausages, beef tongue salad, pig’s ears stuffed with caraway cheese and of course its signature dish – an oven baked pork leg for two people, served on a wooden platter with a flaming torch. Yummy!

As you can judge by its name a good selection of beer is also guaranteed, including their own light and dark beers from local microbrews. Prices for drinks are not that high, while still within a typical Old Town range, but bear in mind that for the same price of some usual Heineken you can get a pint of some really good local bear.
